State of Minnesota. State of crisis. Our political system is broken. Rather than bringing people together, our politics are mean-spirited and divisive. It doesn’t have to be this way. It cannot be this way any longer.

I am seeking election to the State Senate. I promise to run a different type of campaign worthy of the people I seek to represent. You deserve real solutions and concrete proposals, not campaign slogans and sound-bytes.

I had the honor and privilege of representing most of you as your council member. Throughout my service, I was touched by your warmth and generous spirit. I know and love this community. More now than ever, the Eastside needs a senator who knows the people, issues, and challenges of this area.

I expect the other candidates to share a core belief in a quality education for every child, affordable health care for all, and a commitment to equality and justice for all citizens. However, what matters most is the courage to take a stand and the ability to get things done.

 I have no doubt that over the next several weeks I will be attacked for the tough stands I took as City Council President and Chair of the City’s Budget Committee. Instant popularity or the next day’s headlines have never governed my decisions. Over the past decade, policies of the state have harmed property taxpayers, especially our senior citizens. I am the only candidate with a published plan to fix the state’s financial relationship with the City of Minneapolis.
